Volunteer to be a phone and hospital advocate!

La Piñon advocates participate in 40 hours of training and choose their shifts on a monthly basis. Shifts are from 6-10 hours. We plan training events 2 times a year. Advocate Job Description (Level 2)

  • Responsible to Executive Director/Advocate Coordinator 
  • Provide information and referral, emotional support and service linkage 
  • Kid Talk, a warm-line for children (additional training required) 
  • SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) and Face-to-Face Crisis Intervention: 
  • Meet victim at SANE Unit for an exam or Face-to-Face which would be case specific 
  • Provide emotional support for victim and family 
  • Provide information to victim and family concerning services available to them 
  • Provide information concerning law enforcement and the legal process 
    Serve as an advocate for the victim with law enforcement & the medical community 
  • Aid the community educator in presentations or outreach events concerning agency services and sexual assault myths, statistics, prevention, discussion and awareness issues 
  • Participate in agency fundraisers 
  • Must be 18 year of age or older 
  • Ability to work with diverse individuals and groups 
  • Ability to be caring , supportive and non-judgmental 
  • Ability to work in a client driven environment 
  • Ability to part of a first response team 
  • Must have access to a car 
  • Four on-call shifts per month (shifts range from 6-10 hours). 
  • Commitment for at least 1 year of on-call service, Kid Talk advocacy, and/or Prevention and Outreach participation, OR 6 months for Internships 
  • Successfully complete a 40 hour training on sexual assault issues and first response for Crisis Intervention 
  • Successfully complete the Kid Talk training on child and teen issues 
  • Personal and professional growth and experience (resume builder) 
  • Experience in crisis intervention and crisis coordination 
  • Experience in community education & increased knowledge in sexual assault issues 
  • Experience working with law enforcement, other social services agencies, medical community, the Third Judicial District and others.
